Introduction to ScanSPOT
ScanSPOT is an extension (app) for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central by SPOTS-BSS GmbH. With ScanSPOT, warehouse employees record warehouse movements by barcode scan at the place where the movement happens, directly in Business Central. Paper lists and entering the data later at the workstation are no longer needed.
On the device, you work in the Business Central mobile app or in the browser. You do not need any additional software or interfaces.
How ScanSPOT works
ScanSPOT creates its own warehouse tasks for the warehouse documents in Business Central, for example for a warehouse receipt, a pick, or a released sales order. Warehouse employees see these tasks on their device, scan items, bins, lots, and serial numbers, and confirm each position. When the task is completed, ScanSPOT writes the recorded quantities, bins, and item tracking back to the document and, if you want, posts or registers it at the same time.
Ad-hoc transfers, ad-hoc negative adjustments, and ad-hoc sales orders do not need a source document and are started on the device. In the inventory overview, you see after a scan where which inventory is located.
Areas of ScanSPOT
- Setup: module setup, handling setup, locations, warehouse employees, and mobile devices.
- Role Center and Task Menu: the starting point on the mobile device.
- Processing Tasks: task list, task card and position card, splitting lines, locking and completing tasks.
- Scanning: camera and hardware scanners, how barcodes are recognized, signal tones.
- Document Integration: purchasing, sales, warehouse receipt, warehouse shipment, and warehouse activities.
- Ad-hoc Processes: Ad-hoc Transfer, Ad-hoc Neg. Adjustment, and Ad-hoc Sales Order.
- Physical Inventory: physical inventory via the Phys. Inventory Journal and Phys. Inventory Recording.
- Inventory Overview: inventory per bin, item, lot, or serial number.
- Scanning on the Desktop: scanning in the sales order, in the item journal, and for checking in the warehouse shipment.
- Labels: labels and label matrix.
- Data Transfer and Task Log: writing back and posting, job queue, and log.
- Permissions and License.
Prerequisites
- Business Central version 23 or later, Essentials or Premium.
- The extension SPOTS License Manager must be installed. Without a valid license, the functions of ScanSPOT are not available. After installation, a 30-day trial period runs.
- Supported languages: German and English.

The mobile pages are built for small screens. You can also open them on a desktop computer. ScanSPOT then shows a note that the pages are optimized for mobile devices.
