Scanning on the Desktop

You can also work with a hardware scanner at the workstation in the Business Central client. For this, ScanSPOT adds the Scan action to three documents. Each of them has its own handling area, which is enabled in the handling setup:

DocumentHandling Area
Sales OrderDesktop - Sales Order
Item JournalDesktop - Item Journal
Warehouse ShipmentDesktop - Whse. Shpt. (Check)

Scan mode

Scan starts the scan mode. At the top right, a Scan Barcode indicator appears, which accepts the scanner's input. After each scan, it briefly lights up green (recognized) or red (not recognized), and the matching signal tone sounds. With ✕ Stop or a click outside the indicator, you end the scan mode.

As the location, ScanSPOT uses the location of the document, otherwise the user's default location as a warehouse employee.

Sales Order

  • Item barcode: If there is already a line with the item, ScanSPOT increases its quantity by 1. Otherwise, a new item line is created with variant and unit of measure from the barcode.
  • Bin barcode: Location and bin are applied to the last line.

Item Journal

  • Item barcode: The existing line of the item is increased by 1. Otherwise, a new line is created with the entry type Negative Adjmt..
  • Bin barcode: Location and bin are applied to the last line.

Checking a warehouse shipment

With the Desktop - Whse. Shpt. (Check) handling area, you check a warehouse shipment before posting, for example during packing.

Each item scan increases the Ship Qty. Checked by 1 or by the quantity of the unit of measure from the barcode. ScanSPOT distributes the quantity across the lines of the same item up to the respective Qty. to Ship. Any excess goes to the last matching line.
