Packaging
Every packaging that you use or place on the market is a record in the Packaging - PackSPOT list. You open the list through the search or in the Role Center through Packaging. The list shows the number, description, blocked status, PPWR role, recycling grade, and recycling score. Grade and score are color-coded: green for Class A and B, yellow for C, red for D and E.
A new packaging gets its number from the Packaging Nos. of the Module Setup.
Packaging Card
General
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| No. | Number of the packaging. With "…" you choose another assigned number series. |
| Description | Name of the packaging. It appears as the trade name in the EU Declaration of Conformity. |
| GTIN | Global Trade Item Number, digits only. |
| Blocked | You cannot enter a blocked packaging in item packaging lists. Sales that would consume a blocked packaging cannot be posted. |
| Selectable on Sales | The packaging appears in the Package Selection FactBox in the sales order and in the warehouse shipment (see Packaging on Sales). |
Properties
Under Weights & Measures:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Empty Weight (g) | Sum of the weights of all components in the Composition. PackSPOT calculates the field; you cannot change it. |
| Empty Space (%) | Share of empty space in the packaging. |
| Dimension Height (mm), Dimension Width (mm), Dimension Depth (mm) | Outer dimensions. |
Under Materials:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Main Material(s) | Description of the component that is marked as Main Body in the composition. If there are several main bodies, the field shows the first one. |
| Reusable | Reusable packaging. If the check box is not selected, the packaging is considered single-use packaging. |
| Food Contact | The packaging is in direct contact with food. |
Under PPWR:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Packaging Type | Retail Packaging, Service Packaging, Shipping Packaging, Outer Packaging, or Transport Packaging. |
| Role | Your role under the PPWR for this packaging: Manufacturer, Supplier, Importer, or Distributor. |
| Producer (EPR) | Your company places the packaging on the market in a member state for the first time and therefore bears the extended producer responsibility. |
| System Participation | The packaging participates in a dual system. When you select or clear the check box, PackSPOT clears the System Operator Code. |
| System Operator Code | The system operator for the local country. You can choose from system operators of the local country and those without a country. For other countries, see System Operators per Country. |
Compliance
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Recycling Grade | Class A to E or Unclassified. |
| Recycling Score | Recyclable share in percent, 0 to 100. |
| Recyclable Content (g) | Weight of the recyclable components. |
| Manual Input | With the check box selected, you can maintain the three fields above yourself. When you select the check box, PackSPOT resets the score and grade. |
Without Manual Input, you fill the three fields with the Suggest Recycling Scoring action (see Recycling Scoring).
Compliance Documents
In this part, you store supporting documents for the packaging (see Compliance Documents).
Integration
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Item No. | If you have already created the packaging as an item in the item master data, you can link it here. An item can only be linked to one packaging. |
| Consumption Unit of Measure Code | Unit in which the packaging is consumed, for example STÜCK. Mandatory before you use the packaging in an item packaging list or a sales document. If the packaging is already used in an item packaging list, the code can no longer be changed. |
| Quantity per Consumption UoM | How many packagings one consumption unit contains. During posting, PackSPOT calculates the weight as empty weight × quantity per consumption unit × posted quantity. For a packaging that is created from an item, PackSPOT sets the base unit of measure of the item and the value 1. Mandatory for use in sales documents. |
FactBoxes
In the Picture FactBox, you store photos of the packaging:
- Take opens the camera of the device. After a confirmation prompt, the photo replaces an existing picture.
- Import uploads one or more image files and adds them.
- Delete removes all pictures after a confirmation prompt.
In addition, the standard FactBoxes for links and notes are available.
Composition
In the Composition part, you enter the components of the packaging, for example carton, adhesive tape, and label, one line per component. Whether a component counts as recyclable, intolerance, or design-related loss of recyclables is determined by the minimum standard for determining the recyclability of the Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (ZSVR).
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Description | Name of the component. |
| Weight (g) | Weight of the component. PackSPOT immediately recalculates the Empty Weight of the packaging. |
| Main Body | The component is the main material of the packaging. |
| Recyclable | The component is recyclable. |
| Intolerance | The component interferes with the recycling of the entire packaging. |
| Design Related Recyclables Loss | Part of the recyclable material is lost during recycling due to the design of the packaging. |
| Reporting Category Code | The material under which the component is reported, for the local country. |
The Packaging Categories action opens the reporting categories of the component per country (see Reporting Category per Country).
Recycling Scoring
The Suggest Recycling Scoring action calculates the empty weight, recyclable content, recycling score, and recycling grade from the composition. In doing so, it also overwrites values that you have maintained with Manual Input.
- Recyclable Content (g): weight of all components with Recyclable.
- Recycling Score: calculation according to the minimum standard of the ZSVR.
- Recycling Grade from the score:
| Recycling Score | Recycling Grade |
|---|---|
| 95 and higher | Class A |
| 85 to less than 95 | Class B |
| 70 to less than 85 | Class C |
| 50 to less than 70 | Class D |
| 1 to less than 50 | Class E |
| 0 due to intolerance | Class E |
| 0 for another reason | Unclassified |
System Operators per Country
If you deliver to several countries, a packaging can participate in a different system for each country. The System Operators action on the packaging card opens the Packaging System Operator Mappings - PackSPOT page.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Country/Region Code | Country to which the line applies. Blank means: all countries that do not have their own line. |
| System Operator Code | System operator for this country. You can choose from system operators of this country and those without a country. |
When posting a sale, PackSPOT uses the line for the country of the sale. If there is none, it uses the line with a blank country. The line for the local country is the same information as the System Operator Code on the card.
Reporting Category per Country
Likewise, a component can be reported under a different category for each country. The Packaging Categories action in the composition opens the Packaging Reporting Category Mappings - PackSPOT page for the selected line. It works like the system operator mapping: one line per country, the line with a blank country applies to all other countries, and the line of the local country corresponds to the Reporting Category Code in the composition.
Copy Packaging
With Functions > Copy Packaging…, you transfer the data of another packaging to the open one. You choose the source from the packaging list.
- All fields of the card are transferred, including picture, blocked status, system operator code, and recycling values. The composition of the open packaging is replaced by the composition of the source without a confirmation prompt.
- The mappings per country, the compliance documents, and the EU Declarations of Conformity are not transferred.
Link to the Item
If you also manage packaging material as an item, for example because you purchase it, link the item and the packaging. For this purpose, the item card contains the PPWR - PackSPOT FastTab:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Packaging | The item is a packaging. If you select the check box, PackSPOT creates a packaging with the description, GTIN, blocked status, and base unit of measure of the item. Prerequisite: PackSPOT is enabled in the module setup, and no packaging is linked to the item yet. Clearing the check box does not change the packaging. |
| Packaging No. | The linked packaging. A click opens the packaging card. |
If you later change the description, GTIN, base unit of measure, or blocked status of the item, PackSPOT transfers the change to the packaging. If you delete an item that is linked to a packaging, PackSPOT asks for confirmation first.
Deleting
A packaging cannot be deleted if it is used in an item packaging list or has packaging ledger entries. In this case, block it with Blocked.
