Item Packaging Lists

An item packaging list, often also called a packaging specification, defines which packagings one unit of an item consumes, for example one carton and two edge protectors per pallet. When a sale is posted, PackSPOT posts these packagings based on the list (see Packaging on Sales).

You open the Item Packaging Lists - PackSPOT list through the search or in the Role Center through Item Packaging. A new list gets its number from the Item Packaging List Nos. of the Module Setup.

What a List Applies To

In the header of the list, under Item Assignment, you define which items it applies to.

FieldDescription
Item Category CodeThe list applies to all items of this category that do not have their own list. Only possible if Item No. is blank.
Item No.The list applies to this item. Only possible if Item Category Code is blank.
Item Variant CodeThe list applies only to this variant. Mandatory if the item requires a variant.
Item Unit of Measure CodeThe list applies only to sales in this unit, for example KARTON. Blank means: all units.
Country/Region CodeThe list applies only to deliveries to this country. Blank means: all countries.

Lines

ColumnDescription
TypePackaging or Item Packaging List. With an item packaging list as a line, you nest lists inside each other, for example a carton list in a pallet list.
No.The packaging or the item packaging list. A packaging must not be blocked and needs a consumption unit of measure code.
DescriptionPackSPOT copies it from the packaging or the list.
QuantityConsumption per unit of the item. If the line refers to a list of the same item in a smaller unit, PackSPOT suggests the ratio of the units, for example 12 for a carton with 12 pieces.
Unit of Measure CodeConsumption unit of the packaging.
Calculation TypeProportional or Fixed, see below.
Rounding PrecisionOnly for Proportional. The default is 0.00001.

Calculation Type

  • Proportional: The consumption is quantity × sold quantity, rounded to the rounding precision. Example: 0.25 pieces of film per item, 3 items sold: 0.75 pieces of film.
  • Fixed: PackSPOT rounds the sold quantity up to a whole number. Each started unit therefore consumes the full quantity. Example: 1 label per unit, 2.3 units sold: 3 labels.

Status

StatusMeaning
NewJust created. Lines can be changed.
Under DevelopmentIn progress. Lines can be changed.
CertifiedReleased. Only certified lists are used during posting. Lines are locked; the list cannot be deleted or renamed.
ClosedNo longer in use. Not used during posting. Lines are read-only on the page.

You change the status directly in the Status field. To change a certified list, set it back to Under Development.

When certifying, PackSPOT checks that there is no second certified list for the same combination of item (or category), variant, unit, and country. If you close a list with lines that is not yet certified, PackSPOT asks whether you really want to leave the page.

Embedded lists must also be certified. A certified list needs at least one line; otherwise, posting fails.

Which List Applies During Posting

Among the certified lists, PackSPOT looks for the most specific one and takes the first one that matches:

  1. Item and variant, with unit and country of the sale
  2. Item and variant, with unit, for all countries
  3. Item and variant, for all units, with country
  4. Item and variant, for all units and countries
  5. Item category, with unit and country
  6. Item category, with unit, for all countries
  7. Item category, for all units, with country
  8. Item category, for all units and countries

The variant must match exactly. If the sale has a variant, but there is only a list for the item without a variant, this list does not apply. PackSPOT then continues directly with the item category.

If PackSPOT does not find a list, it does not post any packaging for this item.

Copying a List

Functions > Copy Item Packaging List transfers the lines of another list to the open one. Existing lines are replaced without a confirmation prompt. You cannot copy into a certified list.
